Oz: The Great and Powerful Gets Rachel Weisz

Article: Oscar-winning actress Rachel Weisz is in negotiations to star in the Disney tale Oz: The Great and Powerful for director Sam Raimi.
If she signs on, Rachel Weisz will portray Evanorah, the Wicked Witch of the East and older sister of Mila Kunis' character, Theodorah, the Wicked Witch of the West. James Franco is already locked in to play the title character.
Last month, we reported that director Sam Raimi wanted to cast Hilary Swank as an evil witch, although Disney preferred Michelle Williams. Since Mila Kunis was already locked in as Theodorah, it was believed this sought-after role was Evanorah, since the other witch, Glinda, is the Good Witch of the North. It is possible Hilary Swank and Michelle Williams were both up for an entirely different role, though it seems the second evil witch will now be played by Rachel Weisz.
Sam Raimi will direct Oz: The Great and Powerful from a script by Mitchell Kapner and David Lindsay-Abaire. The movie will tell the origin stories of Oz and the witch sisters Evanorah, Theodorah, and Glinda. Production is believed to start this summer on Oz: The Great and Powerful.
Oz: The Great and Powerful comes to theaters in 2013 and stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz. The film is directed by Sam Raimi. |
